Denali Mount & Run Expedition 2015

Two friends from distant parts of Poland – Zakopane and Gdynia had combined their potential in order to succeed in:

  • Climbing the coldest mount on earth McKinley
  • Run a marathon on its full distance  Mayor’s Midnight Sun Alaska Marathon
  • Collect the founds which will help soldiers from JW Formozainjured in battle

We do this because we both love nature and spending time in an active way. In addition we believe that our venture, enthusiasm and optimism can also help other people. By our action we would like to support soldiers from elite JW Formoza Marine Commando Unit who had lost their health during their duty. Moreover we wish to help families of those soldiers. If you feel the need to do something for others and you want to join our action please support us. Every zloty or dollar has an enormous meaning.
We will climb the mountain, we will run the marathon but we will not be able to collect the money without your help!

Denali National Park
  • TARGET 1. Mount McKinley (Denali) - 6194 m n.p.m., the highest peak of North America (Alaska - Cordillera) - 63°5'51.34"N 151°0'19.86"W

The highest mountain of North America named in honor of the President of the United States William McKinley in 1896. It was climbed for the first time in 1913 by Hudson Stuck. Its primary name Denali meant in the language of Athabaska Indians - the most important. The other name is The Throne of The Sun which falls asleep on it’s peak. Nowadays the massive of McKinley's is under the protection of Denali National Park. Due to the fact that it is the highest mountain of North America it is on the list of Worlds Crown. First Pole who had climbed McKinley was Marek Głogoczowski who succeeded it in 1970. Despite the fact that it has “only” a bit more than 6000 m Denali is believed to be much harder than some of the higher Himalaya peaks because of its 5000 m denivelation! Certainly it is one of the coldest mountains with temperatures around -22 °F and strong constant winds blowing.

Denali National Park
  • TARGET 2. Participation in Mayor’s Midnight Sun Alaska Marathon on a full marathon distance in a Polish – American charity action "DENALI"

There is a unique marathon in Alaska every year in June (see: www.mayorsmarathon.com). After climbing the McKinley the team together with Polish citizens, America veterans and other runners of good will will take part in this marathon. We will start as one team – The White Eagle Team.

  • TARGET 3. Raising money for JW Formoza Soldiers

KRS FORMOZA - is an association of present and former soldiers of Formoza unit who’s effort is to help other people using their knowledge and experience. And that’s how our association was born! Another task of our association is to popularize knowledge about our unit and strengthen its authority. We perform in order to integrate the Soldiers and friends of our unit. We wish to maintain the national and Polish traditions and to develop national , consciousness and cultural awareness. Our actions are a kind of charity. Our aim is to improve social situation of the participants of our association and their families. If you want to support us every help is priceless.

Why is our expedition so unique?

  1. We will conduct and develop the first in the world research on altitude sickness which will help to recognize people who are in danger of death on high altitudes and those who need longer acclimatization. Our research will have enormous meaning for developing safe mountaineering tourism and exploration. Research is being made in cooperation with Military Medical Institute in Warsaw. Continuation of completing the Crown of Earth and a marathon on a big height. Popularization of the charity action in international prosocial cooperation. Popularization of knowledge about JW Formoza among Polish citizens all over the world.
